Aaron J. French came on board the Dark Discoveries editorial team in 2012, working for then editor-in-chief James R. Beach, around the time the magazine was purchased by JournalStone Publishing. In 2013, Beach left the magazine to pursue other projects, and French stepped up as editor-in-chief and has been fulfilling that role ever since. Under French’s guidance, the magazine has been transformed into a highly professional publication that explores interesting and important themes, such as transhumanism, the occult, secret societies, and dark mysteries. Dark Discoveries has also become a premier venue for the most talented authors in the field of speculative fiction to display their original work, as DD ceased publishing reprints in 2013. Since that time the magazine has featured brand new fiction from Douglas Clegg, Brian Evenson, Tom Piccirilli, Laird Barron, Donald Tyson, John Shirley, Glen Hirshberg, Storm Constantine, Scott Edelman, Ray Garton, Cecilia Tan, Lisa Tuttle, Gregory Benford, Paul Di Filippo, Rebecca Cantrell, and Graham Hancock, with several being selected for Best of the Year collections.
